Hand grasp made simple
Having hand function for everyday tasks is a priority for many people with cervical spinal cord injury. KeyGrip is an implanted device that activates paralyzed muscles in the hand and arm to enable lateral pinch for people with cervical spinal cord injury.
KeyGrip’s design is based on interviews with dozens of experts, including people living with spinal cord injury, engineers, hand surgeons, therapists, business executives, regulators, and reimbursement specialists. These conversations identified lateral pinch as the most versatile grasp option because it enables people to firmly grasp and confidently use simple everyday objects such as a pen, fork, spoon, key, stylus, and other similar objects. Experts also agreed that KeyGrip’s simple outpatient implant procedure will make it less expensive for hospitals to purchase, and easier to bring to market.
